Hello again. Since our first bonsai class we have gone a little mad.  A little mad purchasing trees to create bonsai. Chris and I visited Schley's Bonsai Nursery and couldn't believe the assortment of bonsai trees he had available.  This is where we went a little mad.  We purchased two serissa or snow rose, a crepe myrtle, a premna microphylla and a schefflera or Hawaiian umbrella tree. Jason, the owner of Schley's nursery was very helpful and spent a considerable amount of time with us walking through his vast nursery.  He explained which trees are good for beginners and which are more advanced.  Jason also told us about the Kawa Bonsai Society which meets once a month at his nursery.  Fantastic!  We didn't hesitate to join.  Our first "meeting" wasn't really a meeting as they were having their summer tropical event.  We met members of the society and watched a demonstration on how to "needle a pine".  One of the more difficult of bonsa...

  Hello Everyone, I'd like to introduce myself and my husband, Lynn and Chris Hutchison.  We are originally from the Buffalo, NY area and have (surprise) moved to Florida in our retirement!  The reason for Florida....Disney of course!  Chris and I go to the Flower and Garden Festival in Epcot yearly.  We have both fallen in love with the Bonsai displays there. This past spring while in Epcot I causally asked Chris if he would like to find a bonsai class in our area and see what it's all about.  I received an enthusiastic yes! In June of this year we found a bonsai class about an hour from our home.  It was the Penjing Bonsai Garden in Malabar, Florida.  Our host and teacher, Feng Gu, he had everyone call him Gary, was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun.  This is our story: Upon arriving at the Penjing Garden class we were warmly greeted by Gary.  He showed us his greenhouse and began explaining the different types of plants that he had ...
